Oral sedation uses a prescription medication that is given one hour prior to your appointment. It is perfect for patients that need:
- Oral surgery
- Longer procedures
- Same-day dentistry
- Anxiety relief
Although oral sedation is sometimes called “sleep dentistry,” you aren’t really asleep. Most people feel like they are daydreaming or taking a light nap. In fact, you will be able to answer simple questions or instructions, but most likely will not remember anything about your appointment afterward. The effects of oral sedation are what most people are looking for when they are considering “sleep dentistry” or “twilight dentistry” because there are no shots, needles or IVs required to administer the sedative medication.
Light Conscious Sedation
We spend a lot of time making sure that you are comfortable during each and every dental procedure. The deeper sedation available with an oral sedation treatment option allows Dr. Held to work more efficiently, because you will be as comfortable as possible throughout the entire visit. Oral sedation is extremely safe and the effects wear off gradually, giving us more than enough time to complete all of your treatment during one sitting. You will even have enough time to get back home to recover from your visit before the sedative wears off. Please have a friend or family member accompany you to and from your visit, as driving yourself will not be an option.
If you are curious about oral sedation, please let us know. Dr. Held will need to review your medical history and any medications that you are taking to determine whether or not you are a candidate. You won’t regret asking!
You shouldn’t have to suffer from tooth pain simply because dental care makes you nervous. Ask us about having oral sedation during your next treatment.
