Root Canal Therapy in Indianapolis
Sometimes the nerve inside of a tooth can become infected, either by bacteria, decay, or a history of trauma. The tooth usually develops an abscess (pimple or swelling along the gumlines) or becomes painful. Treating it with a root canal can is the only way to eliminate the pain, infection, and protect the tooth. Dr. Held’s patients retain their tooth for several more years following the root canal therapy that we have to offer.
What is a Root Canal?
A root canal procedure involves accessing the nerve chamber of the tooth and then removing the infected nerve tissues. The canal chamber is then cleaned, medicated and sealed off to prevent reinfection. Teeth that have been treated endodontically will also need a crown, as the tooth is no longer vital. With a crown the tooth can continue use as normal, otherwise it might chip or wear down quicker than normal.
Do Root Canals Hurt?
Root canals are not much different than having other types of dental procedures completed. The only difference is that the root canal procedure will usually last a little while longer than something like a filling. Dr. Held will numb the area around the tooth to keep you comfortable throughout the entire appointment. Other comfort options are also available, including Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation. We wan you to experience absolute comfort at all times, so please do not hesitate to ask us if you would like to add sedation onto your endodontic treatment.
Dr. Zachary Held offers in-house endodontic services for patients in need of root canal therapy. There is no need to refer our patients to an off-site endodontic provider. All of your care can be completed right here!
