Indianapolis Wisdom Teeth Extraction & Removal
The 3rd set of molars in the adult dentition is sometimes called the “wisdom teeth.” Most of the time these teeth will erupt during the late teen years or into the early 20s. They are typically fully developed by age 30. Some people experience no discomfort or problems with them whatsoever, while others are not so lucky.
When Do Wisdom Teeth Need to be Removed?
Not everyone’s wisdom teeth need to be removed, but some do. This is primarily due to the damage that is caused to adjacent teeth or infections that develop around the tooth. Some everyday problems that may result from wisdom tooth development include:
- Partially erupted teeth
- Impacted molars
- Inaccessible tooth decay
Because wisdom teeth are so difficult to clean, they easily become infected or decayed. This causes infection to develop further under the gumlines or against the healthy, neighboring teeth. It may be best to proactively remove wisdom teeth when radiographs show irregular eruption findings.
