Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide has safely been used in dentistry for hundreds of years. The quick onset and reversal of the light sedative make it perfect for anyone going back to work or school without the drowsiness of other sedation options. It takes just a couple of minutes to take effect, and is completely reversible in as few as 5 minutes.
The sedative works by inhaling a mixture of nitrous oxide, creating a warm, relaxed sensation from head to toe. We typically recommend nitrous oxide for:
- Patients with mild to moderate anxiety
- Sensitive teeth and gums
- Restorative dental procedures
- Periodontal therapy
Light Sedation for All Ages
Nitrous oxide is safe and effective for most patients. Children and adults can both benefit from nitrous during even the most routine dental procedures. There are only a few contraindications for its use, so we will conduct a thorough health history review on every patient prior to administering it during your treatment.
You can request nitrous oxide gas during any dental procedure! Even if we have already started your procedure, nitrous can be turned on at any point. Some of our patients even choose to use it during routine procedures like preventive cleanings and periodontal therapy. It may even be all you need during a dental extraction! The modest fee is something that everyone can afford for the peace of mind of and comfort that they desire. Ask about it during your next appointment.
